Dave Navarro has spoken out in support of the Red Hot Chili Peppers over their Super Bowl controversy - even though he admits he's still not on speaking terms with his former bandmates.

The Jane's Addiction guitarist was a member of the Chilis for five years in the 90s, appearing on their sixth album One Hot Minute before being dismissed in 1998 after relations broke down within the group.

But despite their differences never being settled, he's defended their decision to mime to a pre-recorded backing track at the National Football League extravaganza earlier this month.

Navarro tells Sway's Universe: "I was in that band for a couple of years and I'm not really on the greatest terms with those guys personally. However, it's an NFL issue; it had nothing to do with them."
